Clinical Pilates is a form of exercise and rehabilitation that combines traditional Pilates with the latest scientific research on back pain and neck pain. Pilates is an exercise program developed by Joseph Pilates. Clinical Pilates has taken these exercises to the next level by combining the latest research in controlling back pain and core, trunk, hip and shoulder stability to develop a specific exercise program. This allows the whole body to function efficiently, thus decreasing pain, protecting you from injury and improving overall posture and flexibility.

At Mermaid Beach Sports Medicine and Physiotherapy Clinic, we offer two Pilates workouts:
We develop a specific program for you on the reformer machine. Firstly, there is a comprehensive physiotherapy assessment to identify your specific needs, weakness, injuries and pain. Then we will develop your unique program based on this information. Your unique program is taught on the reformer through one on one consultation with your physiotherapist.
Once you are proficient on the reformer, you can continue with your physiotherapist on a one on one level or buy our monthly pass and continue with your program. We then review your program every 6 to 8 weeks on a one on one basis and upgrade you to the next level if necessary.
The mat classes are run in small groups. There is a short assessment before the class to check for any pain or problems that need to taken into account during your workout. You are also shown the basic techniques required for the class.
With our small classes we can modify the workout to suit your needs. Your technique is checked with every exercise to ensure you are getting the most out of each class.
All our Pilates programs are run by Pilates trained physiotherapists.
Clinical Pilate’s sessions are covered by most Private Health Funds. Private Health Insurance can claim their Clinical Pilates directly using our Hicaps Facilities.
